During April 2018, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted through the 72nd Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) meeting an initial strategy on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from ships, setting out a vision to reduce GHG emissions from international shipping and phase them out, as soon as possible in this century.
The main goal is to achieve a 70% reduction of CO2 emissions from Shipping by the year 2050, with intermediate compliance measures and gradual phasing out applicable for both newbuilding and existing ships.
Such a challenging mission can only be achieved through implementing reduced emission technologies, improving ship designs dramatically and eventually marching towards replacing the Global fleet with Zero Emission ships as we reach further towards year 2100.
FINOCEAN is determined to support the global shipping industry to gradually adopt and implement Zero Emission Ship Technologies, thus taking the first actions by becoming active Members of ZESTAs.
The Zero Emission Ship Technology Association (ZESTAs) is founded with a Purpose of promoting the interests of Zero Emission Ship Technology Industry, aiming to:
- Influence regulators and policymakers at national and international levels to introduce legislation that necessitates the uptake of ZEST.
- Seek project financing and develop research projects for zero emission ships and technologies
- Create a platform for Zero Emission Ship technology provider to collaborate on projects.
FINOCEAN has the expertise and strong background to incorporate Zero Emission Ship Technologies into newbuilding design development or into existing ship, working on a feasible and pragmatic orientation (fully materializable and financially sustainable projects).
While FINOCEAN partners can accelerate the realization of Zero Emission Ships through effective market resourcing and project management.
